Black Lion Coffee & Café

If you take coffee seriously and appreciate the difference of a good quality blend and brew, then this is your spot. We could recognize it as soon as we walked in and smelled it, and our barista clearly put in the time and effort to make it right. We got a pair of large lattes for the road and were definitely glad we decided to get them from Black Lion. We liked the nice large size, too.

Hidden gem of the shady grove medical area. Authentic and well-sourced coffee. Definitely the best coffee shop in Gaithersburg and probably the entirety of Montgomery county, which is rife with middling Starbucks chains. Can’t go wrong with the drip coffee. The pastries are pretty good too. Lots of space to get work done or sit and chat - they have an entire outdoor patio area as well if the weather is nice. Not a lot of outlets though.

Black Lion Cafe now has bubble tea! We tried the medium cup of Thai Tea Bubble Tea on the left and the Black Milk Tea Bubble Tea on the right. Overall, I would say they were great. I've tried a lot of bubble tea in the area and I would say this place is comparable to them. Also, great outdoor seating and great place to have bubble tea outdoors with your pup. There's a row of tables and chairs on the side of the building and seating in front.

Nestled in some quiet tiny Rockville suburb no-name shopping area sits a surprise diamond in the rough coffee cafe. I am truly at a loss for words in this review right now. My unplanned visit for emergency caffiene at Black Lion Coffee Cafe was utterly and overwhelmingly one of the best things I've done in my opinion. In fact, I'm actually puzzled why Black Lion Coffee does not have more locations. While not a major coffee connoiseur, the aroma that envelopes you as you walk into the cafe feels so much different in a good way compared to walking into Starbucks or Peet's. Drinking Black Lion coffee almost feels like I'm drinking coffee for the first time. The Ethiopian coffee here is astonishing, and to be specific, the premium coffee made from Ethiopian coffee beans curated through Black Lion is incomparable in my book. I've tried Ethiopian coffee from many cafes and from many bean brands and they all seem like a sham now. With the exception of Blue Bottle Coffee, I cannot recall any brand or Cafe that comes close to the deep richness, earthiness, and depth of the cappucino, macchiato, and regular coffee ordered here. Truly hope Black Lion can expand and educate consumers on what good Ethiopian coffee really taste like.

Black Lion serves very good coffee. Mt cappuccino always comes strong with a big layer of foam milk. Perfect every time. The black lion is very consistent and never disappoints. The atmosphere is very cozy and perfect for gloomy days. The vibe is just right.

Great place great coffee. I go here whenever I'm in the area. I drive by at least 6 coffee shops to get to the Black Lion. The coffee is top notch. The owners are the best and at least one of them are almost always there. I keep a supply of their fresh roasted beans at home. They roast the beans on the premises so the aroma in the shop is perfect. This is a must go to coffee shop if you are in the area.

Finally I can tell I found the best coffee in the US! Wait a second! One of the best coffees in the world! This location is absolutely beautiful! The staff are friendly and the sweets are delicious! They do roast and sell their signature coffee beans and what I also love about this cafe place is the music always smooth and calm and doesn’t irritate your peace or focus if you rereading or just working on your computer. We are so happy to find this hidden gem! Please give it a try! You won’t be disappointed I promise!

I ordered a hot mocha latte. The coffee was phenomenal. The ambience in the cafe itself was amazing. Definitely a great place to do work and study. I wish they had updated their menu. They had some interesting syrups and flavors on the menu like hazelnut and tiramisu but were out of them. The service was prompt.
